The strength of Kuopio is the multidisciplinary approach towards human health and wellbeing, especially in serious public health problems including prevention, diagnostics and treatment. The wide-range top expertise is mainly based on the University's biosciences and health and wellbeing sciences but also utilizes the core expertise from other institutes and commercial organizations in the community. The commercial activities pursued in Kuopio are mainly in the service sector, contract manufacturing and pharmaceutical drug development. There is also ground-breaking work being done in the commercialization of gene therapy, neurology and diagnostics.
The major objective of these activities is to develop a business environment favourable for birth of novel enterprise activities, to encourage growth of the existing business and to promote internationalization as well as intensifying the innovation environment. We also aim to develop and support local expertise and increase the conspicuousness and attractiveness of the bio/medicine field.
